Speak to one another with Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs.
Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything,
in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Ephesians 5: 19-20
Music plays a vital role in the worship and educational life of Central Baptist Church. We believe that worship is one of God’s finest gifts to humanity and we strive to use it as effectively as possible. Our worship music is an eclectic combination of forms and styles by which we praise God, build up the body of believers, and voice our witness to others.
Our Sanctuary Choir leads us in worship regularly at 11:00 a.m. on Sundays. Seasonal programs are presented at Christmas and Holy week. This choir has a wide-ranging repertoire that embraces hundreds of years of choral music in many styles and from many sources. Membership is open to anyone high school age or older. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings, 7:00-8:30 (7:00-8:00 p.m. during the summer months).
The Centralaires choir provides an opportunity for musical expression in ministry for seniors. They present music to neighborhood institutions, nearby churches and festivals in order to share the love of God. They rehearse in the fellowship hall weekly, on Mondays at 10:00 a.m.
The Children’s Choir is our elementary choir (K-5th grades). They learn anthems to present in worship, as well as what it means to lead worship and basic music appreciation. They rehearse on Wednesdays during the school year as part of our Wednesday night programming, rotating between choir and Bible study from 6:00-7:00 p.m.
New Psalm is a choral ensemble that provides an opportunity for younger adults to come together and offer a lighter, more contemporary sound and style in music for worship. This ensemble is typically made up of singers in their 20’s and 30’s and rehearsals are scheduled seasonally.
Twice a month, this group of instrumentalists provide accompaniment for worship at Central Baptist. This group meets on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month at 9:00 a.m. to rehearse, and then provide worship support for the following service.
Please contact Mary Richerson Craven if you are interested in participating in the music ministry at Central.
