Frequently Asked Questions
What is worship like at Central?
We are committed to thoughtful, traditional worship that generally follows the seasons of the Christian year. The elements of worship (music, readings, children’s sermon, etc.) reflect an intentional interconnection and are built around the Scriptures of the day.
Where do my children go?
Sunday School classes for children are age-graded, beginning with infants through 12th grade. Sunday School is from 9:45-10:45; parents are invited to adult classes during the same hour. Infants, toddlers, and preschoolers remain in their Sunday School classrooms during the worship hour (11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.) for Extended Session. Pick-up elementary children from their classes and join us for worship in the sanctuary.
Kindergarten-3rd graders attend the first portion of the service with their families and are invited to leave at the appropriate time for Children’s Church (typically after the children’s sermon). 4th and 5th graders remain in the sanctuary for the entire service. Special worship bags are available in the 4th-5th grade Sunday school room.
What should I wear?
At Central, you will find a variety of choices in the realm of attire. There are many who adhere to a “Sunday traditional” style, while others prefer to dress more casually. Please come in whatever makes you feel comfortable for engaging in genuine worship. We’re just glad to have you with us
What kind of Baptists are you?
Outside observers would probably call us “moderate, Virginia Baptists.” We partner with various organizations including CBF, CBFVA, BGAV, and SBC, but seek to remain as “free and faithful” as those first Virginia Baptists in the 1700′s.
Is Communion offered?
We celebrate Communion on the first Sunday of each month during our 11:00 a.m. worship hour. All those who profess faith in Christ are invited to partake.
How can I get involved and make connections with others when I am ready?
Fill out a visitor information card and place it in the offering plate to help us get to know you better. Contact a staff member about a ministry in which you are interested. Let us recommend a Sunday school class where you can meet others, or a ministry in which you might serve alongside future friends. Come to one of the annual seasonal events, such as Fall Festival, Christmas events, and Easter activities, and get to know the spirit of Central. We look forward to meeting you!
